September 2026: The new school year begins!

Although the Claremont temperatures in the high 80s (°F) may not give it away, the Fall season is here! As the new season rolls around, we mark the start of a new school year and are excited to see where it takes us. To celebrate the start of the school year, the team had an inaugural HEART Lab social dinner in the Claremont Village. We had a great time connecting face to face to catch up, eat great food, and welcome the following new members to the team:

In the lab, the research team has all made it back safely from the US from Japan (and are enjoying their new goodies!). Thank you once again to our collaborators Dr. Akira Tsuda and family for the omiyage (souvenirs) from Japan! Now that everyone is home, we are excited to get started working with the data collected during our time abroad. Right now, the team is diving into the transcription and translation work for the study.

Looking back at our past travels and research, we are excited to share that our Spain Manuscript has been accepted for publication in the European Journal of Social Psychology! Hooray! This research utilized a mixed-methods approach to identify patterns in daily experiences that evoke patterns of love in Spanish culture. We will not spoil our findings for you here, but you can access the article (early online access) at this DOI link (https://doi.org/10.1002/ejsp.70118) or you can access the preprint (this link) if you want to learn more.

In other exciting news, Dr. Saida Heshmati was recently interviewed by Claremont Graduate University’s online magazine, The Flame. In the interview, she discussed the Love Across Cultures project and love in everyday life. Keep an eye out for the online publication of the interview in the Valentines Day edition of the magazine this upcoming February!
